Good afternoon, y’all! To say this week has been rough would be an understatement…and it’s only Tuesday evening. I’ve been obsessively checking three different weather apps/sites, hoping and praying the forecast would improve. That being said, it has actually gone up, with chance of thunderstorms at 65-90% depending on which app I look at (Weather Underground, Accuweather, and Weather Channel). I understand that there’s a chance it could change again, but with a lot of folks (including me) having hotels booked, I think it would be irresponsible to wait until the last minute to make a decision and then folks can’t get refunds or change the date on the reservations. Additionally, from a ride organizer standpoint, I have to be concerned first and foremost about safety, and I’m not willing to put any of y’all at risk by potentially sending you out on a paved ride in a thunderstorm. That’s a no-go from a risk management standpoint. So while I realize that there will be some not happy with this change, I feel that it’s a decision that needed to be made, and sooner rather than later. Therefore, I regret to announce that The Legacy 100 will not take place this Saturday on April 5th as we’d planned.I considered the idea of canceling the ride this year entirely, but I love the Schulenburg area, the scenery and the people, and I really want y’all to experience the joy that I feel when I’m out there riding. The idea, therefore, of canceling completely was just not a option that was happy with, nor one that I felt was fair to the folks who have been looking forward to this ride for some time and invested their money in it. I’ve hosted a gravel ride for Alzheimers for the last three years that’s been quite successful, with folks completing a fun but challenging ride and then sharing a meal together and hanging out afterwards. I want Legacy 100 to be an equally challenging and fun time for y’all on pavement, and that obviously cannot happen if we just cancel, so…we’re going to reschedule.Rescheduling means we won’t have the nearby festival to partner with, and I’m definitely disappointed about that, but I’m working on some ideas to make up for that. There will for sure be a post-ride meal of some sort, and I’m looking into other fun things to do as well (corn hole, giant connect 4, or something along these lines), all under the giant covered pavilion at Wolter’s Park. I will do my absolute best to make it worth the wait for y’all, you have my word on that. Below you’ll find a link to a poll, which will be open until the end of the day on Saturday April 5th, and I’ve presented three different dates that work well for me and my vendors/volunteers/sponsors and don’t conflict with any nearby organized rides. Please choose the option you prefer, and if there is a clear consensus on my end after the poll closes, I will go with what the group decides. |
